Today I was checking through some old files and found a page on which I had written two quotes:

“Where ever you go, go with all your heart” – Confucius

“My mind finds eternal peace in my heart”

I couldn’t find where the second quote had come from but it seems fortuitous to have come across these quotes again today, as I’ve been working on updating my website and injecting some new energy into Eye of the Sun.

Like many people, I’ve experienced a significant time management conflict between work and family that grew up when I married and had my two gorgeous children.  I have been guilty of being particularly hard on myself when I couldn’t do everything I used to accomplish in a day and nurture my family as well.  I reluctantly put Eye of the Sun, my other baby, in the back seat for a while as I focused on my children.  That didn’t mean the frustration at not being able to do everything went away, though.

When I reread these quotes this morning it reminded me that I have put all of my heart into my children and, even though my mind fought it at times, I definitely made the right decision!

It also reminded me that the key to every day happiness and satisfaction with life lies in getting out of the noise of your head, out of the confusion of emotion and fatigue and checking in with your heart.  With young children, I may not have quite the time I used to have for meditation but finding that clarity of purpose and direction is perhaps even more important than it used to be – it just happens in the shower, in the few minutes before I get out of bed in the morning or when I get into bed at night rather than in long dedicated sessions.

I don’t know about you, but a reminder to check in with my heart never goes astray!
